Sydney NAS Online with 4TB

Some of our customers have multiple VPS online on various seperate hardware platforms at our main Sydney Australia POP at Equinix in Sydney, and could utilise a shared or common network-based disk for greater capabilities and utilisation of their VPS.

To provide more large storage capacity to all customers, we’ve now commissioned an initial 4TB Network Attached Storage array in Sydney and this array will grow quickly from here.

This NAS is connected to our Sydney core network via multiple gigabit ethernet links to provide very high data transfer rates, and as with all our customer storage this NAS based storage is 100% redundant in terms of hardware failure of any 2 drives in the array and as such provides great performance too under load.

To help existing and new customers find ways to utilise high-speed high-capacity network attached (NAS) storage, during August 2012 we’re offering 3 free months of at least 100GB of NAS-backed storage, delivered via most available LAN-based network storage protocols, like; NFS, SMB/CIFS, FTP, HTTP, SSL wrapped protocols, iSCSI, OCFS2, DRBD and others (let us know how you’d like to access your NAS disk space) for customers to trial before purchase.

So if you’re an existing customer of Network Presence, or signup for a new service in August, please contact us if you’d like an additional 100GB of live NAS-based storage for your VPS or Colo service.

FYI and regards,
Richard.

Install PHP 5.3 and MySQL 5.5 to CentOS 5

To keep up with the latest versions of PHP and MySQL, CentOS 5 based Linux systems need to install the EPEL and Remi Repositories to get MySQL 5.5 installed to CentOS 5.

Commands are (as root):

yum install php53-mysql
wget http://rpms.famillecollet.com/enterprise/remi-release-5.rpm
wget http://download.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/5/x86_64/epel-release-5-4.noarch.rpm
rpm -iv epel-release-5-4.noarch.rpm
rpm -iv remi-release-5.rpm
yum upgrade mysql-server

The last will upgrade any installed version of MySQL server and clients software on your Linux system.

The first yum install command will bring in the PHP 5.3 and its mysql module and dependencies, which then get upgraded after the last yum upgrade is run.

FYI,
Richard.

More people working at Network Presence

As per some of our blog’d history, there are now 3 other people working with me (Richard Siggs) to run Network Presence Pty Ltd on a daily and weekly basis.

John does ‘customer outreach’ (Sales & Marketing) and over time he’ll be in contact with each and every customer of Network Presence in some way.

Andrew helps me daily with the Linux and Internet Operations and SysAdmin of Network Presence and for customer VPS work requests. He also responds to admin@ and support@ email requests, as well as take calls on a rostered basis on our (soon to be announced) Australia-wide 1300 contact phone number.

Sally works regularly each week to keep the accounting and general business of Network Presence ticking over and helps me with admin@ and accounts@ email queries and already takes calls on our contact phone #s, utilising her experience and qualifications as an Accountant and Business Manager to provide added value to Network Presence customers.

This is Network Presence from mid 2012 and we’ll be growing more staff and personnel into the business as ‘the cloud’ grows in importance in the modern global Internet.

FYI and Regards,
Richard.
