Running hordes of clustered Tomcats

I’ve ordered ‘the book’ on Tomcat 6 from Amazon, to “tick all the boxes” on a large production Tomcat cluster that I’m running.

I’ve seen some amazing Tomcat performance, most good, some bad and made the config updates req’d to increase Tomcat content serving throughput.

This Tomcat knowledge has certainly helped in running many JVM based Minecraft VPS for GamingAU.net on Network Presence.

So if you have a large Tomcat or Java (JVM) engine requirement, please do contact us.

Understanding Cassandra’s Datamodel

I’ve done a bit of development around Cassandra this year, after having read the book on it (http://www.amazon.com/Cassandra-Definitive-Guide-Eben-Hewitt/dp/1449390412/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1312331422&sr=8-1) and then using it to store our NetFlow data for a week or so earlier in 2011.

So I found this “grok Cassandra’s datamodel” post to be a good refresher & reminder about the capabilities & nature of Cassandra, particularly as a replacement (in a ‘NoSQL’ context, which is how I trialled Cassandra) for MySQL & such.

Out of my Cassandra works came the “Cassandra Appliance” VPS Plan of Network Presence as well, so if you’re interested in a Cassandra dev/test or production server, please feel free to contact me.

Freeside Online Billing & Accounting VPS

Freeside is an online billing and accounting system for ISPs and other online businesses.

We’ve created a “VPS Appliance” Plan which provides you with a customised but fully installed & operational Freeside system!

This was an “interesting” VPS build, requiring a lot of open-source software distributions to be installed, in sequence and with much configuration required.

This is the recently released Freeside version 2.3.0 and includes an integrated RT (Request Tracker) system as well.
