Free OpenVZ VPS when you spend over $50/month at Network Presence

Customers that spend over $50 / month are able to request a free “OpenVZ VPS – 0” VPS in addition to their services that cost over $50 / month.

This free OpenVZ based VPS has its own IP address and is at the specs of our Shopfront site’s OpenVZ VPS #0 Plan.

These free VPS are good as Name Servers or Web Proxies and other uses for high CPU, small RAM Internet presence capabilities, and applicable customers should please email admin AT networkpresence to request this free OpenVZ VPS.

FYI and regards,
Richard.

Network Upgrades in Q1 2016

After a network switch failure affecting part of our Sydney network in January, we’re starting to deploy a new network topology and equipment in Sydney from mid February 2016.

The first phase of this is to replace the switch which was put in-place of the originally failed switch in mid January, as unfortunately the switch we initially put online in January as the immediately replacement in our Sydney network, has proven to be unable to process our network traffic at all times (aka “can’t keep up all the time”/has no headroom).

This Network Upgrade Phase 1 occurs on Feb 10th/11th next week and then Phase 2 (a Data Centre “Core” network based on Brocade switch stacks) will be installed from March 2016 and that will provide us with many 10Gbit ethernet ‘downlinks’ to VPS hosting servers, increasing general network capabilities as we grow and scale in 2016.

FYI and sorry about the network problems in January 2016 that affected some (~1/3) customers, but like a phoenix we’re going to emerge quickly from this with a much better network all round, regards,
Richard.

Shutting down Australian based VPN Server

During 2015 we added a feature to our VPS Plans being a free VPN for VPS customers (10GB data/month quota), where customers could ask for or order on our sites a VPN service we’ve been providing for them in our Sydney Data Centre POP.

But now the new LNP Federal Gov’t have passed laws requiring a complicated scheme for “Metadata Retention” by Australian carriers and CSPs.

This domestic VPN is something Network Presence would need to retain req’d metadata for/about and given it’s a free value-add to our VPS Plans (since mid 2015), we’re not going to incur the large (Gov’t mandated) cost for this VPN service in Sydney.

We’ll contact the few customers affected by this by email directly and offer options and other information to help them move off this VPN service before it’s soon decommissioned.

Regards,
Richard.
