{"id":9447,"date":"2026-10-04T11:41:47","date_gmt":"2026-10-04T01:11:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.networkpresence.co\/?p=9447"},"modified":"2026-10-04T11:42:52","modified_gmt":"2026-10-04T01:12:52","slug":"rename-your-rke2-cluster","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.networkpresence.co\/?p=9447","title":{"rendered":"Rename your RKE2 Cluster"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Say you&#8217;ve restored an RKE2 Cluster main node from backups and its now on a new hostname and IP address.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The RKE2 server won&#8217;t start because the etcd environment will have the old hostname and IP address configured to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The solution is to stop your RKE2 server (eg: <code>systemctl stop rke2-server<\/code>) and update your <code>\/etc\/rancher\/rke2\/config.yaml<\/code> file with the new hostname and IP Address.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The run the command as root: <code>rke2 server --cluster-reset<\/code><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wait for it to complete then start your RKE2 server with <code>systemctl start rke2-server<\/code><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And wait for the start to complete and you should have a working RKE2 cluster again.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Say you&#8217;ve restored an RKE2 Cluster main node from backups and its now on a new hostname and IP address.
