Today we released our “iOS IPSEC VPN in the US” product, which provides an iPhone/iPad compatible IPSEC VPN service that gives Internet access through the VPN. ie: A fully encrypted Virtual Private Network, from your iPhone or iPad through to our Internet VPN Gateway in the mid-west of America (USA).
This post provides some text-based information on how to get the relevant configuration & files (Certificates & Keys for IPSEC) and we’ll add to this with screen captures soon & post more information as needed to help customers get their Network Presence IPSEC Internet VPN service going.
Information is presented below on how to load the VPN config & files is based on using the ‘iPhone Configuration Utility’ from Apple on your PC or Mac.
1) Install ‘iPhone Configuration Utility‘ from http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/enterprise/
2) Create the Config Profile for the VPN:
Note: YOURUSER in the following is your VPN Username, which we provide to you.
a) Click “Configuration Profiles” & the ‘New’ icon to create a config profile
b) In the profile’s Identity fields in its General section, name the profile whatever you want (eg: US VPN 1) and give it an Identifier that’s unique to your phone (eg: YOURUSER.vpn1…)
c) Click on the Credentials section of this new profile & click ‘Configure’ to start to add your Keys/Cert files, first add the “ca.crt” file, then click the ‘+’ in the Credentials main pane & add the “vpn1*.key” file & hit ‘+’ again & add your ‘YOURUSER.p12’ file, all in that order (so that it can find the CA for the Server Key & your Key).
d) Click on the VPN section of this new profile & click ‘Configure’ to start to add your VPN settings, Connection name is “vpn1….”, and the Server name is provided (along with req’d passwords), Connection Type is “IPSEC (Cisco)”, Account is “YOURUSER”, Machine Authentication is “Certificate” & select your “YOURUSER.p12” Key in the ‘Credential for authenticating the connection’ drop-down (that’s why you need to add the Credentials first).
3) Then, with the Configuration Profile done as above, click on your iPhone in the “Devices” section of iPhone Configuration Utilitiy’s left pane & click the “Configuration Profiles” therein and with your iPhone connected to your Mac or PC (by USB cable) hit the “install” button for your named Config Profile on your desktop (Mac or PC connected to the iOS device).
Your iPhone/iPad will come live & ask you to Install the Profile & you’ll then be prompted by your iOS device for the password for your .p12 Key (which we provide for you) & the profile should successfully load into your iPhone or iPad, adding a VPN connection in your Settings -> Network -> VPN.
Slide the VPN ‘on’ & all going well, you’ll be prompted for the ‘YOURUSER’ user’s password on the VPN server, which again we provide for you after signup & payment for the monthly US IPSEC VPN Plan.
