On your Linux based hardware with “large” disks (>> 2TB drives to Linux) you may want to use the GNU ‘parted’ disk partition utility to create storage that’s available to the kernel & LVM.<\/p>\n

As root run ‘parted \/dev\/sdX’ where X is the SAS\/SATA\/whatever controller’s drive as presented to the Linux kernel.<\/p>\n

At the ‘(parted)’ prompt, enter:<\/p>\n

mkpart primary ext3 0 -1
\nset 1 lvm on<\/p>\n

Then ‘quit’ Parted to save your changes to the partition table on the relevant drive.<\/p>\n

This creates a new partition assigned the whole drive capacity and gives it the LVM partition type, then saves those changes & exits parted.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
